The North Campus Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) building at the University of Illinois in Urban-Champaign is a $31 million scientific research facility near its northern campus border. The 74,000-net-square-foot facility is critically important to NCSA’s competitive position for federal supercomputing support. It consolidates staff and programs scattered in seven sites across the Urbana-Champaign campus. NCSA develops, deploys and supports cyber-infrastructure to re-engineer the research process. The facility shares a courtyard with the Siebel Center to the south, and contains both office and laboratory space. The landscape is designed to promote collegiality between the NCSA and employees of the Siebel Center.

Jacobs/Ryan Associates also worked closely with campus planners and operations staff to design a low maintenance facility with shade trees. The landscape architect designed planting, some pavements and site furniture for the project. Services ran from preliminary design through construction administration.
